What does the Scaleup Hub programme involve?

The Scale-up Hub was launched by Wayra UK, Innogy Innovation Hub. Hyundai and Transport Systems Catapult. The programme is based in London and is focussed on supporting high growth companies (scale-ups) within the smart energy, smart cities and IOT sectors.

This programme has attracted very interesting start-ups that will help our sales teams differentiate Telefónica/O2’s offerings. One of the main approaches of this programme is to support Telefónica’s investments in Smart Cities.

With most of the start-ups originating from outside the UK, the acceleration programme helped with the transition into the UK market, increasing the collective customer-base of the companies from 2.5 million to 6.1 million in just four months. The aim now is to further increase the customer-base by 67%, following the successful completion of 18 trials involving Telefónica, other corporates and Government agencies.

This swell in customer activity, which has generated £13 million in revenue for the start-ups to date, and has enabled them to raise an additional £6 million in third- party investment.

Through a combination of technical and commercial mentorship and introductions, the programme works with scale-ups to:

  • scale their business locally and/or internationally.
  • strengthen their influence in the tech scene and widen their network.
  • facilitate introductions to potential corporate partners and investors.
